The infrared light

The infrared or IR light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength greater than the visible light (from about 700 nanometers to 1 millimeter). Its name means 'lower than red' as it is below the wavelength emitted by this color.

The infrared light is commonly divided into three areas along its length:

Near Infrared: Its emission ranges from 780 nm to 1400 nm approx.

Medium infrared: Ranging from 1400 nm to 15 microns.

Far infrared: Its emission goes from 15 microns to 1000 microns.

Also the so-called 'mid-infrared' is subdivided into shortwave, medium wave and long wave.

Uses of infrared light

Infrared light has many uses: used for night vision, short-range communication between computers or electronic devices (IrDA), to send signals from remote controls, etc.

In the industrial sector the more widespread use of infrared light is the treatment of materials, such as the drying of paint or varnish, tempering glass, preheating of metals, aconditioning materials for further processing, etc. because IR light emits heat.
